How Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, and Others Owned the 2016 BET Awards

In a night of showcasing and honoring unbelievable talent, various entertainers graced the stage of the 2016 BET Awards to perform their hit songs and accept well-deserved awards.

Among the evening's winners were several powerful women in the industry, including BeyoncéRihanna, Nicki MinajTaraji P. Henson, Amandla Stenberg, and our newest MAKER Serena Williams.

The performers, however, (even those who did not win any awards) truly stole the show. See some of the many musical highlights below:

Janelle Monáe sings a tribute of which Prince would be proud

I lost a true friend and confidante, a mentor, a laughing buddy, an artistic father, my ping pong pal, my biking partner, my dance partner, and my musical hero. I am thankful for the time God let us borrow you. I'll miss our long music and life conversations. I'll miss our countless jokes and email meme sessions. I'll miss giving you the first copy of my album. I'll miss seeing you in the audience at our shows and running on stage during yours. I'll miss watching you show us what it looks like to be the greatest rock star in the world. Thank you for never letting your mystery over shadow your kindness. Thank you for choosing freedom over fear. Thank you for being a selfless giver of knowledge and wisdom to so many young artists, including myself. I would not know half of what I do had it not been for your guidance. You understood us weirdos and encouraged us to remain unique. You were a protector of the vanguard and fought to protect our creativity always. You were an encourager of young women in leadership roles, making me believe I should run for president. Outside of you giving us your time, your timeless music, and your timeless performances, the greatest gift you have given me was your affirmation. The truth is: without you there would be no Janelle Monáe. Without Paisley Park there would be no Wondaland Arts Society. I miss you, but I know we will jam together again. Until next time. #PRINCEDAY
