MAKERS Attends Carrie Hammer's NYFW 2015 "Role Models Not Runway Models" Show

While this year's New York Fashion Week is coming to an end, MAKERS started off our celebrations by attending the Carrie Hammer Spring 2016 show, "Role Models Not Runway Models" at the Mercedes Benz Manhattan Showroom.

Hammer wasn't always involved in the fashion world.

She's a UCLA graduate with a degree in Economics and Women's Studies. While starting her career as an advertising sales executive, she realized that there was a lack of well-fitting contemporary workwear for the modern professional woman.

After that realization, she took charge by designing custom pieces for herself. She would eventually go on to study Fashion Business and Marketing at Parsons Paris School of Art and Design. In 2012, she launched her namesake brand. For Hammer, fashion is also an outlet to empower women within and beyond the workplace. She gained attention after her debut NYFW show in February 2014 where she featured the first ever model who happened to use a wheelchair on the runway.

Learn about the influential and successful women who appeared in her 2015 NYFW runway show and watch footage from the fashion show in the video above.
