Christy Haubegger: Changing the complexion of the newsstands

"We need to address gender head on and race head on so leadership looks more authentic."

Christy Haubegger, founder of Latina magazine and current executive at Creative Artists Agency, was told by her parents that she could grow up to be whatever she wanted to be, but she never saw anyone like her succeeding in the media. After graduating from law school, Haubegger took matters into her own hands. With the help of Essence magazine founder Edward Lewis, Haubegger created a magazine that would change the complexion of the newsstand.

Today at The MAKERS Conference, Haubegger shared what she believes is some good news. "When we look at what’s happening going forward, we know that power is never given, it’s always taken. ... Women and people of color are about take our power because of one thingtechnology."
