Introducing Elena of Avalor: Disney's First Latina Princess

In an exciting press release, the Disney Channel announced that it will welcome its first latina princess to Disney Parks — Disney World this summer and Disneyland come fall — and the Disney Channel this year.

Voiced by Aimee Carrero, Princess Elena will enrich the Disney Channel with Latin culture in a series called "Elena of Avalor" as a "bold, caring, funny and clever 16 year old" who will learn to be thoughtful, resilient, and compassionate, all "while highlighting the importance of family and family traditions."

Slated to be told in 33 languages and in 163 countries, the first glimpses of Elena's story can be seen here:

The "Elena of Avalor" series is slated to premiere July 22.
