Emma Watson Wants to Spend International Women’s Day With You
International Women's Day is coming (Sunday, March 8th) and there are about seven thousand ways to spend it to show your support. #HeForShe founder Emma Watson is holding Q-&-A session about gender equality at 1 pm EST (live-streaming on Facebook), and she posted a pretty charming (and clearly unscripted) video argument for why you might want to spend the afternoon with her:
This is just her latest move in support of feminism, as part of the He For She campaign. “The more I have spoken about feminism the more I have realized that fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop,” she said in September. “For the record, feminism by definition is: ‘The belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes.'”
As for the “he” half of the campaign, Emma added: “Men, I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue too.” Emma’s right, this issue is about everyone, not just women. Which begs the question: who will you be watching with on Sunday?
