Pro Athletes and Crazy-Successful Execs Answer: What Does It Mean to #PlayLikeAGirl?
When the SELF team enlisted a model/NBA pro, an Olympic medalist and a CEO for a panel discussion, we knew the talk was going to get real. Monday's "Play Like a Girl" breakfast lived up to the expectation when SELF editor-in-chief Joyce Chang moderated the discussion at New York's Bandier boutique with model and NBA style consultant Damaris Lewis, Olympic medalist and pro hockey player Hilary Knight and Equinox president Sarah Robb O'Hagan.
And when it came to the topic at-hand, these women offered up serious inspiration. "'Play Like a Girl' means being unstoppable, setting your mind to anything that you want to do and making sure that you wholeheartedly pursue it with all passion," Knight told us. Lewis added, "It means playing with the highest level of observation, playing with strength and never, ever, ever giving up."
But the term doesn’t apply to sports only. O'Hagan explained: "… In the workplace, [women] play differently in teams. And I think that's a good thing, actually. I do think that women are so naturally good at collaborating and making sure that everyone's on the same page." Proof that we can own what it means to #PlayLikeAGirl, whether your on the field or in the office.
