A History of Fragrance

A History of Fragrance

For as long as human beings have roamed the Earth, they've searched high and low for anything that would help them smell good while doing so.

Just as civilizations developed over time, so did their scents: from myrrh and frankincense to civet and musk to lily of the valley, lemon and bergamot.

Fragrance wasn't only used for beauty in ancient times: it was ceremonial — many believed certain scents would bring them closer to the gods — and also thought to purify, with whole societies relying on certain perfumes to disinfect a space or ward off disease.

Nowadays, fragrance has just as much power, triggering memories from the past and making us feel confident as we take steps towards the future.
