Joan Rivers Broke Boundaries (Literally!)

When Joan Rivers was performing in the Catskills, the reception wasn't exactly warm. As she told it, “they hated me so much I climbed out the window of my dressing room so I didn’t have to go through the lobby."

She laughed when she talked about repeated rejection, because as we all know, it shaped her comedy for the better. And luckily, performing healed any wounds it inflicted. “I’ve never had to go to a psychiatrist,” she said. “If I’m angry, it all comes out onstage.”
