Lead "Big Bang Theory" Cast Members Will Take Paycuts to Help Female Castmates

After being on the show since episode 1 of season 1, the now 10-season veterans of "The Big Bang Theory" — Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar, and Simon Helberg — are taking paycuts.

These cuts, which will amount to $100K each per episode, will bring their current $1M per episode salary down to $900K.

Surprisingly, this change was not due to anything other than the fact that the original five cast members all agreed to help out castmates Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch.

Since Bialik and Rauch joined the series in season 3, their salaries were lower — but perhaps too much lower at $200,000 per episode. So, the original cast made the "extraordinary gesture of taking a small pay cut to free up money for raises for Bialik and Rauch." With their help, Bialik and Rauch could each make $450,000 per episode.

According to Variety, "The move is evidence of the strong camaraderie among the key players on the show that remains primetime's most-watched comedy. The general harmony behind the scenes has also contributed to the show's enduring creative strength, bolstered by the comedic chops of the core ensemble."
