Maisie Williams Is Not Here for Your Sexist Headlines

Maisie Williams Is Not Here for Your Sexist Headlines

Attention all: You might want to think twice before throwing a sexist headline Maisie Williams’ way. The "Game of Thrones" actress recently shut down a Daily Mail reporter who drew attention to her undergarments at a charity event. Instead of focusing on Williams’ philanthropic efforts, the writer discussed the actress’ “bare legs” and presumed bralessness. And that just wasn't gonna fly with Williams.

Before I go any further, I want to make something very clear: It’s weird and inappropriate to comment on someone’s undergarments (or lack thereof). And it’s especially weird to do so if that person is a 19-year-old girl. OK, glad we got that straightened out.

The problematic "Daily Mail" headline read, "Unveiled: Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams goes braless in sheer lace dress and quirky headpiece at charity masquerade ball." And just a few hours after the article was published, Williams tweeted a response shutting down said headline. "Alternative," she tweeted. "Game of Thrones actor, Maisie Williams, helps raise thousands at a Summer Masquerade Ball for @NSPCC." Now that sounds a little more substantive and a lot less sexist.

Maybe Arya Stark should abandon her swordplay and venture into the media world?
