MAKERS Announces Six New Documentaries at TCA Press Tour

Today the MAKERS team is in Los Angeles to announce our six new documentaries at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour. We’re excited to be hosting a panel this evening with actress Geena Davis, filmmaker Ava Duverney, Linda Woolverton (most recently known for writing Maleficent), and former congresswoman Pat Schroeder. Our panelists--who also star in the upcoming documentaries--will talk about navigating their various fields and the challenges they have faced as women.

Expanding on the critically acclaimed PBS documentary MAKERS: Women Who Make America, which told the story of the modern American women’s movement, each documentary in this six-part series examines the impact of the women’s movement on six fields once largely closed to women: business, space, Hollywood, comedy, war and politics. In each field, women have pried open and profoundly reshaped the central institutions of American life and culture.

Through intimate interviews with trailblazing women known and unknown, viewers are given a rare glimpse-- sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and always candid—of what it’s like to be a pioneer in these fields.  Directed by some of the country’s leading independent filmmakers, MAKERS brings to life new and unforgettable stories that every woman, man, girl and boy should know. The six one-hour documentaries will begin broadcasting September 30th for six consecutive weeks on PBS and, as a result, over 50 MAKERS will be added to

Interviewees include:  Ursula Burns, Diahann Carroll, Glenn Close, Ellen DeGeneres, Chelsea Handler, Gwen Ifill, Mae Jemison, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jane Lynch, Indra Nooyi, Valerie Plame, Shonda Rhimes, Joan Rivers, Cokie Roberts, Sarah Silverman, Alfre Woodard, and many more.
