MAKERS Movie Stars: Shapers of TV and Film

MAKERS is so proud of its actresses, like Zooey Deschanel, Marlo Thomas, and Rita Moreno.  Zooey Deschanel is both an actress and musician, currently starring on FOX's hit comedy series "The New Girl." Playing the title role Jess Day, Deschanel proves that a woman can be quirky, cute, feminine and yet still be strong and intelligent. And she has been fighting stereotypes of women in media since her early years, having written a letter to Vogue contesting its beauty 'ideals' at age 17.

Other MAKERS like Rita Moreno and Diahann Carroll have also broken boundaries for female actresses, by refusing to play stereotypical roles or braving new gender and racial representations. Legendary Rita Moreno was the first Latina to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and trailblazer Diahann Carroll held the lead in Julia as the first African American women to star in a television series.
