Malala Condemns Peshawar Attack on School

Malala Condemns Peshawar Attack on School

On Tuesday, Taliban militants attacked a school in Peshawar, Pakistan, the BBC reports. It was the deadliest attack by the Taliban in Pakistan, killing 141 people, 132 of them children. All seven of the attackers were killed, the Pakistani military says.

17-year-old Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai was shot by the Taliban in 2011 for speaking out in favor of worldwide education for girls. She grew up in Pakistan’s Swat Valley before moving to England after the shooting. She responded to the attack in Peshawar with a statement on Tuesday:

"I am heartbroken by this senseless and cold blooded act of terror in Peshawar that is unfolding before us. Innocent children in their school have no place in horror such as this. I condemn these atrocious and cowardly acts and stand united with the government and armed forces of Pakistan whose efforts so far to address this horrific event are commendable. I, along with millions of others around the world, mourn these children, my brothers and sisters - but we will never be defeated."
