Mammogram? Oh, I'll Do That Next Year
Tennis champion and this week's upcoming MAKER Martina Navratilova went four years between mammograms when she discovered she had breast cancer.
After finally going in for her appointment, Navratilova was diagnosed with a non-invasive form of breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ, or DCIS, which had not spread to the breast tissue, a best case scenario. She was even able continue playing tennis while going through treatment.
Still, the nine-time Wimbledon champion understands that you don't have to be an all-star tennis player to become too busy to make your yearly mammogram appointment; we all get caught up in our daily lives, but early detection is key and yearly mammograms are essential in keeping up-to-date with your health.
Stay tuned for more Martina's upcoming MAKERS interview going live this week!
