See How Michelle Obama Rings in the Holiday Season
The holiday season is here, and never one to pass up a festive opportunity, Michelle Obama has gone full-force into making her last holiday in the White House count. The day after Thanksgiving, FLOTUS welcomed the official White House Christmas tree, followed by a press conference revealing this year's decorations and the 94th Annual National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony last week. And last night, she channeled her holiday spirit with fashion, in a custom Gucci dress that shone brighter than even the Obamas' 19-foot tree.
Mrs. Obama wore the stunning green and camellia-hued silk crepe dress to the annual Kennedy Center Honors, the honorees of which this year include Al Pacino and singer James Taylor, and bore a striking (but totally chic) resemblance to a Christmas tree. That she wore the designs of an Italian brand to this event is a first for the First Lady, but also possibly a subtle nod of political solidarity in response to the resignation of Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. Though Michelle Obama has been known to catapult the careers of young American designers, such as Jason Wu and Jonathan Simkhai, this isn't her first time looking overseas for a knockout look. She made jaws drop across the world in a gold Versace dress at her and POTUS's final state dinner in October.
These moments are, of course, bittersweet: They give us such life and inspiration to be the best version of ourselves, but also remind us how little time we have left with the Obamas at the helm of the country. For now, we'll consider this moment an early holiday present.
