Natalie Portman As Jacqueline Kennedy

Natalie Portman As Jacqueline Kennedy

By Joanna Robinson

Natalie Portman is the latest actress to take on America’s most stylish First Lady. Many famous brunettes including Jaclyn Smith, Roma Downey, Jacqueline Bisset, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Katie Holmes have tried on iconic Kennedy pillbox hat or oversize Onassis shades at some point in their careers. But here’s how that classic Kennedy style looks on Portman in the first official photo from Pablo Larraín's "Jackie."

The film was originally conceived as an HBO mini-series and covers the four days between J.F.K.’s assassination and his burial, with the intention of showing Jackie at both her most vulnerable and her most graceful.

The project has been a long time in the making, and in its original form, way back in 2010, was meant to be a couple’s project for director Darren Aronofsky and his then fiancée Rachel Weisz. Aronofsky is still producing, but it’s Chilean director Larraín — whose 2012 film No won the Art Cinema Award at Cannes and was nominated for best-foreign-language film at the Oscars — who will be directing Portman alongside Peter Sarsgaard, Greta Gerwig, and John Hurt. Jackie will premiere in 2017.
