Phil Donahue interviews Orlando police chief Val Demings

Television host Phil Donahue and Orlando police chief Val Demings sat down at The MAKERS Conference to discuss Demings' story. As the first woman to serve as the Chief for the Orlando Police Department, Demings said "public service isn't something you do, it is who you are." Her hope is "that girls everywhere, not just in Orlando, can see themselves in positions that they've never seen themselves in before."

Donahue and Demings also talked about gender roles both in the workplace and at home. Demings stated, "There are no female roles or male roles, there are just roles. We are always better when we can work together to get them done."
