6 Reasons Why Queen Rania of Jordan Is a Force to Be Reckoned With
As an avid campaigner for human rights, it comes as no surprise that Queen Rania made an appearance at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City this past weekend — an initiative to mobilize people into action to tackle the world's biggest challenges.
Check out five reasons why Queen Rania is one of the most inspiring and innovative monarchs to date.
1. She is a role model for Arab women
In a time where more and more Arab women are denied opportunities to progress (let alone access to basic rights), Queen Rania's activism and leadership serves as a refreshing source of hope and aspiration.
2. She reminds us that exuding eloquence and strength are not mutually exclusive
Her title as Queen ensures a certain level of grace and responsibility, but Queen Rania has not let this label diminish her conviction or will either. She continues to use her voice loud and clear.
3. She uses her position of power for good
An advocate for women's rights, Rania was named by Forbes in 2009 as one of the "100 Most Powerful Women in the World."
4. She goes against the grain
Queen Rania is no stranger to speaking out on taboo or forbidden topics in the Arab community, such as legal child protection reforms and women's rights.
5. She is an author in her (rare) spare time
When she's not wrapped up in royal duties, Queen Rania also is a children's book author. One of her four books "The Sandwich Swap" became a New York Times bestseller.
6. She's in touch with the millennial generation
Queen Rania is an active social media user and without a doubt the most tech-savvy monarch today. A quick snapshot of her social presence shows that Rania boasts an impressive 4.15 million followers on Twitter, and almost 1 million on Instagram. Another fun fact? One of her many followers include Prince Charles' Twitter page, @ClarenceHouse. Queen Rania also accepted the first ever YouTube Visionary Award for her film work on social justice issues via her self-titled YouTube channel.
