A Reading to Remember: Young Girls Recite Maya Angelou’s ‘Phenomenal Woman’

Maya Angelou published “Phenomenal Woman” in 1978. Today, it’s still a definitive statement on womanhood, with all its variety and imperfection. To celebrate Black History Month, Nickelodeon partnered with Because of Them, We Can to celebrate black history all year round. In a video honoring Maya Angelou, little girls read a version of “Phenomenal Woman.” 

Because of Them We Can founder Eunique Jones Gibson wanted to create a campaign that would “empower and excite young people about their history and their future.” Find out more about how she got started here
