Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

If you’re at the office this morning, you might notice some shorter, cuter, workers running around today. April 26th is Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, an annual event to encourage parents to bring their children to work, and expose them to professional life. Gloria Steinem and the Ms. Foundation for Women founded the event in 1993, as “Take Our Daughters to Work.” Initially the program was solely directed at girls, as a way to expand opportunities for women in the workforce, through exposing them to potential career opportunities, particularly in non-traditional fields. In 2007, the Ms. Foundation decided to expand the day to include both boys and girls.

Marlo Thomas was working for the Ms.Foundation when the event first began. In this video sherecounts the history and reasoning behind Take Our Daughters to Work Day.

Did you bring your child to work with you today? Let us know on Facebook and Twitter.
