Taylor, Britney, Beyoncé: A Look at Recent Legends Onstage at the American Music Awards

The American Music Awards aims to showcase the year’s “most influential and iconic artists,” and though it holds less musical clout than the Grammys earlier on in the year, the ceremony still packs an entertainment punch: top performers turn out to show off their talents, and some artists end the night with career-defining awards and recognition.

This year’s ceremony will be on Sunday, November 23 and we’re excited for a couple girl power highlights: Lorde is nominated for favorite pop/rock album and single as well as favorite alternative rock artist, while Beyonce is nominated for favorite album and artist in the soul/R&B category as well as artist of the year (it’s hard to imagine her not winning that last title).

Plus, Taylor Swift will debut her performance of 1989 single Blank Space as part of the evening’s program. It’s a memorable stage for Swift, who in 2011 won three awards including artist of the year and in 2013 won four awards including artist of the year.

A group of other stellar female artists have won recognition on the stage of the AMAs, and this year’s show builds on 41 years of passionate performance. Click through the gallery above for a look back at the best moments of the shows.
