Tyrese Gibson Talks About Teaching His Daughter Self-Love
AOL's BUILD series hosted a discussion Wednesday with Grammy-nominated R&B singer, songwriter, actor, and author, Tyrese Gibson, at AOL headquarters in New York.
Gibson talked about his last solo album, "Black Rose," and took questions from the audience in a lively discussion that ranged in topics from his experience shooting the "Fast and the Furious" movies to his family life.
One question asked about his relationship with his 8-year-old daughter Shayla, who is best known for appearing in a home video from 2014 where Gibson gives her a lesson in self-confidence.
"We are amongst the lost generation," Gibson said Wednesday about the roles of father and mothers. He went on to highlight how important it is for fathers and mothers to instill confidence in their sons and daughters, adding that his daughter will "end up feeling the way the world wants [her] to feel" if he doesn't tell her how she's supposed to feel about herself:
"You can't tell me how to feel about me, when my dad has instilled in me how I'm supposed to feel about me," he said.
