Watch Alicia Keys' Impressive Cover of Adele On "The Tonight Show"
MAKER Alicia Keys stopped by "The Tonight Show" on Tuesday and made us all do a double take when she played a round of the beloved game Wheel of Musical Impressions with host Jimmy Fallon. Yes, this is the same game that brought us Christina Aguilera doing a spot-on impression of Britney Spears, and Ariana Grande nailing a cover of Celine Dion — so settle in, because this is about to be good.
Keys warmed up by impersonating her fellow Voice coach Gwen Stefani, with the song "Miss Mary Mack." It wasn't bad, especially her reimagining of the chorus of "Hollaback Girl." But we didn't fully take note of Keys' impression prowess until she was tasked with singing "The Alphabet Song" as Adele. And, damn, did she nail it.
The singer whipped out a powerful, soulful version of the ABCs set to the tune of "Hello" that's so moving you might find yourself weeping. Seriously. But we should have known this musical pairing would work well: After all, both Adele and Keys have 15 Grammys (each) to their name.
Watch Keys' impression, below, and pray for some kind of collaboration with these two artists in the future — even if it's just of a nursery rhyme.
