12 Women to Watch at Lollapalooza 2015

Although we're about halfway done with summer, music festival season seems to be in full swing as Lollapalooza 2015 kicks off in Chicago on Friday.

Festivals are still wildly popular in the U.S. According to a new Nielson report, 32 million people attend music festivals each year across the nation.

Unfortunately female musicians are still being underrepresented at music festivals. For instance, only 16 percent of Coachella 2015's music acts were led by female musicians, reports USA Today. Similarly, this year's Bonnaroo lineup only saw 20 women-led music acts out of 100. While these numbers are a little under whelming, we're always happy to see talented women take the stage no matter the obstacles. Most importantly, we hope to see these numbers grow over time.

So for now, plug in your headphones, turn up the volume, and check out some of Lollapalooza's female headliners below:

1. Florence + The Machine

2. Alabama Shakes

3. Marina and the Diamonds

4. Elle King

5. Charli XCX

7. Banks

8. FKA Twigs
