Jane Wurwand is one of the world's most talented skin therapists. Her journey in skin care began after she emigrated from the United Kingdom to the United States with her husband Raymond in 1983. With an education rooted in skin therapy, she decided to put her knowledge to good use. New to the American "esthetician" industry, she quickly realized that skin and body therapy education was practically non-existent in the United States. In Marina del Rey, Calif., she opened up a classroom under the name The International Dermal Institute (IDI). While teaching at IDI, she also realized that there wasn't a skin care product line that correlated with her skin care philosophies. Dermalogica began in 1986 and the brand was dedicated to providing products free of common irritants and ingredients that harm the skin. Even with the launch of her skin care brand, IDI was still a priority. The institute is responsible for the research and development of Dermalogica products and treatments. Today, Dermalogica products are sold in the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Ireland, and Canada, and can be found in more than 80 countries around the world. Aside from providing top skin care products, Wurwand has also lent her hand in philanthropic efforts. The Dermalogica Foundation was founded in 1999 and strives to enhance the lives of women and children. In 2011, the Dermalogica Foundation's Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship (FITE) initiative launched partnership with Kiva.org to fund small loans for female entrepreneurs in developing countries. Since then, FITE has funded more than 60,000 women across 68 countries and includes support for education, mentorship and job-skill training for women and girls. The foundation also works to support local grassroots initiatives in order to help women become leaders, impactful citizens and champions for pressing social issues.
