Whitney Smith is the Founder of Girls For a Change, a national organization that empowers girls to create social change. Prior to founding GFC, Smith worked at the executive level of county government in Silicon Valley, as an advocate and policy designer for issues facing women. Before joining government, Whitney worked with Girl Scouts of Northern California for six years creating and managing programs for girls in juvenile detention centers, the daughters of women in prison, and girls living in low-income communities.
Smith began her career as a social advocate in college, where she initiated and developed the first Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) support group in the Pennsylvania state university system. She is a member of The Clinton Global Initiative, and an Advisory Board Member for the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs and Executives, and the National Girls Institute. She is also a Board Member for Thinking Beyond Borders, and is serving as an Advisor to the National Women Studies Association.
