Carli Lloyd talks about what it was like being benched before the 2012 Olympics.

Carli's Biography

Soccer champion Carli Lloyd scored the winning goals for the U.S in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. She was also named the 2015 FIFA Player of the Year.

Lloyd was born in New Jersey in 1982. She attended Rutgers University and was named First-Team All-Conference for the entire four years — the first Rutgers athlete to earn this. She ended her collegiate career as the school's all-time leader in points (117), goals (50), and shots. During the United States' victory over Japan in the 2015 FIFA games, Lloyd became the first person ever to score three goals in a FIFA Women's World Cup final. Scoring three goals in a single match is known as a hat trick and she was the second player in the history of the sport to accomplish this.

Lloyd has played in more than 220 matches for the U.S. national team and has scored over 80 goals. As Lloyd and her teammates head to the 2016 Rio Olympics, she has nothing on her mind but winning the gold.
