This Ad Tells the True Story of a Transgender Mother and Adopted Daughter

The opening credits of Vick's new ad, "Generations of Care #TouchOfCare," read "A True Story."

Receiving more than 9 million views on YouTube, the message preaches that "motherhood has no gender," and is sparking controversy over the debate of transgender people's rights in India.

Transgender people were officially recognized in India in 2014 but the debate on whether or not they should be allowed to adopt children is still undetermined.

Gauri runs a NGO in Mumbai and was one of the original activists who lobbied the government and Supreme Court of India for a law giving transgender people equal rights, Women in the World reports.
