Alicia Keys Starts a Revolution By Saying "No" to Makeup

In a recent post in Lena Dunham's newsletter, Lenny, singer-songwriter Alicia Keys reveals herself in a #nomakeup movement to empower women and girls to find self-esteem underneath all the Maybelline products.

"Women are brainwashed into feeling like we have to be skinny, or sexy, or desirable, or perfect," she wrote, "I was really starting to feel like that — that, as I am, I was not good enough for the world to see."

And with the help of photographer Paola Kudacki, Keys decided she is no longer going to be a chameleon or change "so all the 'they's' would accept" her. She was going to start a revolution. She's since taken Instagram by (a flawless/makeup-less) storm after much meditation and self-reflection.

"I don't want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing."
