Survey Says: Most Americans Support Federal Funding of Planned Parenthood

By Jennifer Memmolo

Good news: The majority of Americans support the heck out of Planned Parenthood. A new Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 54 percent of Americans support federal funding of Planned Parenthood, while 26 percent opposed it.

The poll, comprising both Democrats and Republicans, also found that 73 percent of Americans believe in using federal funds for women's health exams. Another 69 percent said those funds could be used for prenatal services, and 59 percent were all for using funding for contraception.

It looks like most Americans don't believe we spend too much on women's health care after all. If anything, it looks like the federal government should be spending more to ensure the health of women and children.

However, the news wasn't all great. The videos released earlier this summer as part of a public attack on Planned Parenthood did have a negative impact on how 44 percent of those polled viewed the organization. Thirty-four percent of those polled said their views of the organization remain the same, for better or worse.

There's never a bad time to remind any #StandWithPP naysayers in your life that only 3 percent of Planned Parenthood's work involves abortions and that federal and state tax dollars cannot be used to fund abortions at all, except in cases of rape, incest, and endangerment of the mother's life.
