Barnard College to Admit Transgender Women
Barnard College announced Thursday that it will begin accepting transgender women.
"In furtherance of our mission, tradition and values as a women's college, and in recognition of our changing world and evolving understanding of gender identity, Barnard will consider for admission those applicants who consistently live and identify as women, regardless of the gender assigned to them at birth," the school issued in a statement.
The New York City-based women's college joins the ranks of Wellesley and Smith, who have instituted similar admissions policies.
The announcement comes on the heels of Monday’s debut of Vanity Fair's cover welcoming Caitlyn Jenner. The cover story instantly went viral across the Internet, taking social media by storm, and further igniting the conversation about transgender equality.
