Former WNBA Star Tamara James Is Giving Back to Her Hometown in the Best Way

Though she was once known for her basketball abilities with the Women's National Basketball Association's Washington Mystics, former small forward, Tamara James, is now giving back to her town in the best way.

Born in Dania Beach, Fla., 32-year-old James has officially become the mayor of the City of Dania Beach. After working on the area's Marine Advisory Board, Charter Review Board, and Parks & Recreation and Community Affairs Advisory Board, she will continue her work "to give back so that our future generations can achieve more."

Among her list of priorities are the creation of both youth and elder programs to help protect and care for the city's entire population; the development of parks and recreation to help keep residents healthy and active; and help ensure the safety, protection, and evolution of its infrastructure.

And, subsequent to meeting with an estimated 75 percent of Dania's residents, it looks like James is ready.
