Day 10, Gro Harlem Brundtland: MAKERS Celebrates 20 Women of the 1995 UN Conference on Women

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 1995 UN Conference on Women in Beijing, we're featuring 20 incredible women on MAKERS who participated in the largest ever international gathering of women.

Gro Harlem Brundtland was Norway’s first woman Prime Minister, eventually serving three separate terms in office. Educated as a physician, Dr. Brundtland is a pioneer in the sustainable development movement, and, throughout her career, has been a leader in public health, at one time serving as Director-General of the World Health Organization. It was during Dr. Brundtland’s third term in office that Norway sponsored secret talks between Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization, which lead to the Oslo Accords.

Check back here as we unveil more stories from these incredible women, as part of a special countdown culminating in the announcement of a MAKERS surprise.
