Strong, Powerful and Inspiring: Girls Owning Their #GameFaces
To be a top athlete, you not only need a body that's in peak condition, you need to have the right mindset, too. The few minutes before stepping onto the field (or court!) is when an athlete flips the mental switch that gets him or her in performance mode.
According to the team at Wildfang, a cool "tomboy style" shopping site, that pre-game moment is when athletes are at "their most authentic." So they decided to partner with photographer Andrea Corradini on the #GameFace collection, a series of photographs that captures 14 different young athletes at that key time.
"We are so proud of this amazing group of young women. They're total badasses," the team at Wildfang tells SELF.
And while we’re completely mesmerized by the raw power and drive of these young athletes, team SELF isn’t the only one taking notice. Abby Wambach, forward for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, agrees that these strong girls are exactly what the future of women’s sports needs, saying that the future of her sport is definitely in good hands.
Check out the images and athlete stories provided by Wildfang in the gallery above, and the next time you prepare to tackle a tough workout, well … be sure to bring your best #GameFace.
