John Oliver Calls Out Online Harassment Against Women

During Sunday's episode of "Last Week Tonight," comedian John Oliver tackled the issue of online harassment against women.

He started out by taking a look back at the Internet's history — to its original purpose of being a tool to make people's lives easier. Then, he addressed how threats made toward women can be incredibly damaging, and how they can quickly spiral out of control.

Unfortunately, the Internet is no stranger to violent language, but luckily people like John Oliver are bringing attention to this problem.

"If a woman turns up to a police station saying someone threatened her life on Twitter, the answer 'What’s Twitter?' is woefully inadequate," Oliver said.
