Lifetime Pushes for Women in Film With New 'Broad Focus' Initiative

Lifetime is working toward giving women the chance to make a stronger presence within the film and entertainment industry. On Thursday, the network announced their Broad Focus initiative, which aims to provide opportunities for women to write, develop, produce, and direct content for Lifetime.

According to the network, the mission of Broad Focus “is to encourage and cultivate women’s talent in media, scout content leaders who are creating the best female-focused stories for television and advocate and raise awareness about the need for more women in influential content making roles throughout the media landscape.”

Lifetime will also partner with Geena Davis’ Bentonville Film Festival. According to the festival’s website, they are also championing for women and diversity in film. Lifetime signed on as their cable television partner and will telecast one of the festival’s winning films, reports Deadline. The winner of the festival’s script writing contest will see their script developed by Lifetime.

The Bentonville Film Festival began May 5 in Bentonville, Ark., and runs until May 9.
