Fifty years ago today, the voyage of the starship Enterprise set off for the first time on televisions around the world.

From there, the science fiction phenomenon known as "Star Trek" has expanded into more than 700 episodes and thirteen movies — inspiring millions not only in fandom, but also in space exploration and science.

Between diehard "Trekkies" and the more recent following from the box-office resurgence, many around the world are showing their "Star Trek" pride as they celebrate the franchise's iconic birthday.
