MAKING HISTORY: Cathy Comic Debuts

In honor of Women's History Month, we are celebrating with 31 days of women's history! Every day in March, we will highlight an historic moment, as told through the personal stories of our MAKERS.

Today we celebrate Cathy Guisewite and her comic "Cathy," the first widely syndicated cartoon written by a woman! Picked up for syndication in 1976, "Cathy" ran for 34 years as one of the most beloved and recognizable comic strips of its time.

Guisewite struck a nerve with her readers by channeling her personal experiences caught between society’s traditional expectations and new feminist ideals, and of course, whether or not to eat a whole plate of cookies.
