A Public Display of Feminism: Watch Beyonce’s VMA Performance

Everything Beyonce does, Beyonce owns. From her surprise album release to a tour with her husband, she's changing the rules of a game she already won. And though in past she's been cagey about the word "feminist," her VMA performance left no doubts: Beyonce is feminist as well as flawless. With a 20-minute set that showcased most the songs on her latest album, Beyonce officially laid claim to feminism while perpetuating the image of an ultimate married life, one in which she gets it all.

Now that she played the definition of feminism (according to Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's speech, sampled in ***Flawless) for over 10 million viewers, maybe we'll face a few less women against feminism.

"Feminist: the person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes."
