6 Reasons We Love Meryl Streep

Over the years, the three-time Academy Award-winning actress has portrayed so many interesting and versatile characters that it's hard to choose only one favorite role.

And as if that's not enough, her character off-screen is pretty incredible, too.

How could anyone not love her?

We thought we'd celebrate her birthday by reflecting on a few of the many reasons we think she's simply amazing:

1. She's got brains and beauty
Meryl Streep received her bachelor's degree from Vassar then followed up with a master's from Yale. She's even received honorary doctorates from three different schools, among them are Princeton and Harvard. Streep originally planned on going to law school instead of attending Yale for drama. She overslept the morning of her interview and took it as a sign that she should pursue her acting dreams instead.

2. Age is just a number to her

Before "Into the Woods," she avoided accepting witchy old woman roles. But now she's totally cool with it: "I just thought that it was emblematic of what Hollywood thought of women who pass a certain age: that now they are old crones. It made me mad, so I didn't want to do that or play into it. Now, it's age-appropriate. I am an old crone."

She’s also flawlessly portrayed older women in films like "It's Complicated" and in her movie coming out this summer, “Ricki and The Flash”

3. Seriously, what hasn't she done on the big screen?

Her acting career spans across drama, comedy, and even musicals. She's portrayed iconic women in real-life along with bringing life to a ton of fictional characters. It’s hard for us to just pick one favorite character or movie of hers!

4. She totally owns her craft

With a prolific and seemingly never-ending acting career, it's no surprise that Meryl Streep can dish out some major and insightful truth bombs like: "I'm curious about other people. That's the essence of my acting. I'm interested in what it would be like to be you."

"Acting is not about being someone different. It's finding the similarity in what is apparently different, then finding myself in there."

5. Her family is a major priority

Although her career has taken her on an amazing adventure, she still makes time for her family. She managed to balance work and raising a family by choosing films that let her stick close to home. We’re still crossing our fingers and hope that she'll adopt us. "People say, 'When you have children, everything changes' But maybe things are awakened that were already there."

6. She's a huge supporter of women's rights, and her fellow women

We can't get enough of Meryl Streep's positivity and passion towards empowering women. She's funded a writing lab that supports female writers over the age of 40, signing an open letter to help end worldwide poverty among women, and has been a friend and mentor to a number of her peers in Hollywood. Plus, who could forget her reaction to Patricia Arquette's call for gender equality in Hollywood during the Academy Awards? Her positivity towards her fellow women is never-ending.

Cheers to another fabulous year of Meryl Streep!
