The Ringling Bros. Circus Has Picked a Female Ringmaster for the First Time

The famous Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus has picked a woman to be its ringmaster for the first time in its 146-year history.

Kristen Michelle Wilson is a 35 year old from Florida whose larger than life personality was chosen over hundreds of applicants.

Wilson says the best part about being a ringmaster is that "you get to be yourself, but you get to be the grandest version of yourself."

As the new ringmaster, Wilson will direct the show while singing, talking, and riding a float. But she does not do any stunts in her act.

The 39th ringmaster says she is honored and thrilled to make history.

"Ever since I was a child, I have loved performing and entertaining," Wilson said. "So, to join the 'greatest show on earth' is truly just the biggest thrill of my life. It's a bucket list-level opportunity I never even imagined."
