The tennis sensation is the cover star for New York Magazine in which she talks about her off-the-court life and the upcoming US Open trials.
Serena also spoke about her career, speaking on her dad's influence and how her work ethic has rubbed off on other female tennis players. "My dad taught us to have early preparation. I notice the other girls have similar preparations to mine, and I’m like, 'Hmmm … well, you don't want to admit where you got that from, right?'"

On her rise to meteoric ballet success, Copeland tells Essence, "I can't believe my life right now."
She continued, "All of a sudden now that I am in this position, I'm not going to say 'I'm just a dancer.' It's a huge deal because I'm a Black woman. That's why it's a big deal.”
