Serena Williams Just Reminded Us All to Be Our Own Superhero
Nov 5, 2015
If you're having trouble channeling inner strength today, look no farther than your phone — specifically Serena Williams' Instagram. The tennis superstar reminded us that you don't need a cape, a stunt double, or a major ad campaign to be a superhero.
The other evening while casually enjoying Chinese food, Williams saw her dining neighbor take her phone. Instead of just yelling for help or sitting there and thinking, "I'm Serena Williams, I can just get a new phone," the athlete sprung into action and inspired us all.
You should read the message in it’s entirety, but the gist is she felt like something wasn’t right when eyeing up the person sitting near her, and when he did do something shady and steel her phone, she was prepared to challenge him. We aren’t sure why this guy thought he could outrun one of the best tennis players in the world, but that is besides the point. It was really her message of trusting yourself that we all need to remember:
"Superhero? Maybe? Or HELL YEA!! I've got the speed the jumps, the power, the body, the seduction, the sex appeal, the strength, the leadership, and yet the calm to weather the storm. Always listen to your superhero inner voice. Always keep your things close! Fight for what's right. Stand for what you believe in! Be a superhero!"
This reminds us that we do have the power to do anything and may even surprise ourselves when faced with a pressure-filled situation. But we still want the cape, because they’re really fashionable this season.
