"We Are All Survivors": Rape Foundation Advocate Viola Davis Honored At Annual Brunch

"Myself, my mother, my sisters, my friend Rebecca, my friend from childhood, we all have one thing in common," Viola Davis told the attendees of The Rape Foundation Annual Brunch this week. "We are all survivors of sexual assault in some way, shape or form."

And as an advocate for the foundation being rightfully honored, Davis shared her hopes to "redefine survivor" and fulfill "three wishes... three prayers."

1. Visit the Rape Treatment Center and Stuart House.
2. Listen to and have empathy for others.
3. "Live out loud."

Among the other attendees of the event at Ron Burkle's Greenacres estate in Beverly Hills, Calif., were David Schwimmer (the master of ceremonies), Cheryl Saban (another honoree), Nina Dobrev, Matt McGorry, Aja Naomi King, Karla Souza, KaDee Strickland, AnnaLynne McCord, Tamara Taylor, Mayor Eric Garcetti, and many more.

"Memories demand attention, because memories have teeth," Davis said. "Sexual assault perpetrator[s] can move on. The only person who rapes is the rapist. The person who is left behind has to pay over, and over, and over again."
