#ThePowerOfMakeup: Women Are Using Social Media to Speak Out Against "Makeup Shaming"
Real women are taking to social media to speak out against "makeup shaming."
According to YouBeauty.com, in the beginning of June, YouTuber and makeup artist NikkieTutorials posted a video called "The Power of Makeup" telling women they need not be "ashamed" to say they love makeup — just because you love to paint your face doesn't mean you don't love yourself.
"I've been noticing that girls have been almost ashamed to say that they love makeup," Nikkie said in her video.
"Because nowadays when you love makeup you either do it because you love boys, you do it because you’re insecure, or you do it because you don’t love yourself. I feel like, lately, in a way, it's been almost a crime to say you love doing your makeup."
In the video, Nikkie only puts makeup on half of her face to show that putting on makeup can be creative and exciting. She highlights that women do it for themselves, rather than to cover our own insecurities.
Using the #ThePowerOfMakeup, women are sharing their own photos and personal stories to share NikkieTutorials' story. Check out their photos below.
I was recently inspired by @nikkietutorials video on #thepowerofmakeup In our society now ppl shame you for loving makeup. Calling you fake, plastic, or a con artist and all of it honestly makes me sick. I love my bare face and being able to rub my eyes like crazy! But Makeup is my life, career, and one day it'll be my child's tuition. So if you see a girl with perfectly blended eyeshadow and lashes COMPLIMENT her cause she's a artist! If you see a guy with perfect contour COMPLIMENT him, he is a visionary. #nomoreshame #powerofmakeup #mua #makeup
