The United Nations Names a New Ambassador: Wonder Woman

The United Nations announced Wednesday that Wonder Woman will officially be "sworn in" as the U.N. Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls.

And no we are not talking about all of the women who played this character of the years like Gal Gadot, or Lynda Carter.

The actual fictional character is becoming an honorary leader at the U.N. Headquarters on October 21, with efforts to bring gender equality to the world.

The event, part of DC Comics "Wonder Woman's" 75th Anniversary, will launch a new UN initiative to support the UN’s fifth sustainable development goal — the equal treatment and empowerment of women and girls across the world.

DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson says Wonder Woman is perfect for the job because she a champion of love, truth, and justice.

The new "Wonder Woman" solo film stars Gal Gadot and hits theaters on June 2, 2017. Wonder Woman will also appear in "Justice League" on November 17, 2017
