US Deaf Women's National Team Needs Your Help to Defend Championship Title

In a fight to take home the trophy for the third time in a row and defend their world championship title, the U.S. Deaf Women's National Team (USDWT) is heading to the 2016 Deaf World Cup.

As the winning team of the last three Deaf World Cups, they have proven to have the talent, although the USDWT's lack of funding has become an undeniable obstacle. And unlike every other team participating in the competition, the USDWT receives no national funding.

But, MAKER Hope Solosays we can still help! With limited time remaining, fans and supporters can still go to the team's GoFundMe page to donate or purchase its team gear on Etsy.

If you're still not sure why you should root for the USDWNT, maybe Kate Ward, one of the team's talented players, can convince you:

"If you're a woman, or you have a sister, daughter, aunt, or mother, you should cheer for my teammates because they are everything a female role model should be — strong, determined, intelligent, and successful and willing to take risks. If you’re an American, you should cheer for us because we represent the red, white, and blue. If you're deaf, you should cheer for us because we are striving to destroy stereotypes, break barriers, and bring awareness to the deaf community. Oh: And we win."
