HBO films announced they will be creating a biopic that will tell the story of Harriet Tubman. Actress Viola Davis is set to portray the heroic abolitionist. The new project will be based off historian Kate Clifford Larson’s biography, "Bound For The Promised Land," reports Deadline.
Tubman is historically famous for her involvement with the Underground Railroad. Although she was born into slavery, she was able to utilize secret escape routes and safe houses to guide hundreds of slaves on their journey from enslavement to freedom.
Davis, 49, has been the recipient of numerous accolades and awards throughout her career, from her Oscar-nominated roles in "The Help” and "Doubt," to her starring role in ABC’s “How to Get Away With Murder.”
The film is currently under development.
