White House Announces President Barack Obama's Support of Women Registering for the Draft

After remaining neutral on the topic for some time, the Obama Administration has finally taken a stance on women registering for the draft.

According to USA Today, Obama's change in position proves the importance of "a commitment to gender equality throughout the armed services" and fosters "a sense of public service that comes from requiring draft registration as a ritual of adulthood."

"As old barriers for military service are being removed, the administration supports — as a logical next step — women registering for the Selective Service," Ned Price, an Obama's National Security Council spokesperson, stated.

And as Air Force Secretary Deborah James posed earlier this year, requiring women to register for the draft would officially eliminate all gender barriers in the military, allowing for true equality in the services by diversifying the "talent pool."
