Liz Gateley was appointed Executive Vice President and Head of Programming for Lifetime in May, 2015 and oversees three distinct programming genres for the network: movies, scripted series and unscripted series. Based in New York, she oversees all content creation for Lifetime, where her teams are responsible for delivering 400 hours of original programming each year, including the critically acclaimed and Peabody Award-winning UnREAL. Gateley is a driving force behind the new re-brand of Lifetime that is embracing “The Fempire,” a bold new multi-platform initiative dedicated to growing the network’s leadership position as the ultimate destination for women’s entertainment. In fact, in 2016, Lifetime tripled the number of women directors hired (55%) to helm scripted series projects under the network’s award-winning Broad Focus initiative. Gateley was responsible for overseeing cable’s top two original movies of 2016, Toni Braxton: Unbreak my Heart and Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le. She also brought the Billboard Women in Music event to Lifetime in addition to a robust unscripted slate that is driving audience growth, including The Rap Game, the Little Women franchise and Project Runway. Prior to joining Lifetime, Gateley was Co-Founder, with partner Tony DiSanto, of DiGa (part of ITV), a full-service production company they established in 2011. While at DiGa, Gateley executive produced MTV’s hit drama Teen Wolf and shepherded Scream into a series for MTV. She also oversaw such successful reality series as Kesha: My Crazy Beautiful Life for MTV and the Oxygen series Player Gets Played. Gateley, who received a degree in Economics/Business from UCLA and a Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School, started her career in the William Morris Agency’s famed mailroom before moving into development.
